7 Days Lemosho Route

Full Itinearary

Day 1: Arusha- Lemosho Gate – Mti Mkubwa Camp.

Lemosho Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp: (2,780 m);
Distance: 3-4 hours walking.

We leave for Lemosho Gate after breakfast, where you will be registered by the national park authorities, and it takes us there for around 2-3 hours. To get to the Big Tree Camp (2780 m), take a trail that is somewhat steep. Along the trip, keep an eye out for monkeys and unique birds. At Mti Mkubwa Camp, the tents will be ready and waiting, along with hot tea and washing water (Wash Wash).

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa – Shira Camp

Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira Camp (3,550 m):
Distance: 6-7 hours walking.

As we leave the forest behind, the trail steadily climbs while offering expansive views to the Shira Plateau’s rim. a full day of steady, slow-moving hiking up to Shira Camp.

Day 3: Shira Camp – Barranco Valley.

Shira Camp to Barranco Camp (3,900 m.)
Distance: 5-7 hours walking.

Today’s trek includes a gradual ascent and sweeping vistas. After a hot lunch at the base of the Lava Tower (4,600 m), we continue down the southwest side of Kilimanjaro to the Great Barranco valley (3,900 m). We also pass underneath the Lava Tower and the last portion of the Western Breach.

Day 4: Barranco – Karanga Valley.

Barranco Camp to Karanga camp (4,000 m):
Distance: 4-5 hours walking.

We arrive right below the Heim Glacier after a strenuous ascent up the eastern side, where we might be treated to some breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro. Following a steep descent into the alpine desert of the Karanga Valley, we have a strong ascent to Karanga Camp. This is separated from the southeast slopes of Kibo by the Great Barranco Wall.

Day 5: Karanga Valley Camp – Barafu Camp.

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp (4,600 m):
Distance: 3-4 hours walking.

We choose the Traverse Route today, which ascends the Barafu Ridge. We ascend slowly to the last camp before your final ascent day. After a fairly early night, the rest of the day is spent relaxing in preparation for the last ascent.

Day 6: Barafu Camp – Summit – Mweka Camp.

Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Camp (3100 m):Distance: 13-15 hours walking.

Before midnight, in the shadows, get up. A moderate, steady pace will bring us to Stella Point, which is the rim of the main crater, at a height of 5735m. We start out with a hard climb through loose volcanic scree that has some well-graded zigzags.We’ll take a little break there to watch the sunrise over Mawenzi. The main peak (5,895 m), which is the highest point in Africa, is two hours away from here along the crater rim for those who are still in good spirits. Once you’ve had a chance to take in what you’ve accomplished, we quickly descend to Barafu Camp, where we pause for a snack before continuing to Mweka Camp.

Day 7: Mweka Camp - Mweka Gate

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate: 3-5 hours walking.

Successful climbers will collect their summit certificates at Mweka gate after a leisurely stroll through the rainforest. We return to Arusha after lunch.
