6 Days Marangu Route
Full Itinearary
Day 1: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
Day 2 Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
Day 3: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
Day 4: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
Day 5: Kibo Hut to Summit
Elevation (m): 4700m to 5895m, Distance: 21 km, Time: 6-7 hours ascent, 3 hours descent. Habitat: Stone screed and ice-capped summit
You will awaken about 23:30 p.m., and after being given a cup of tea and some energy-boosting foods, you will stroll into the night, when the going will get quite tough as you make the last push to the top of Kilimanjaro. Hans Meyer Point (5250m), which is also a wonderful resting area, is reached along a rocky road that starts the hike.
After that, the path climbs zigzag-style to Gillman’s point (5 681m), which is perched on the crater rim. It requires a lot of physical and mental effort to finish this section because it is fairly steep and covered in stone screed.
From Gillman’s Point, snow is typically encountered all the way up to Uhuru summit (5895m), Africa’s highest mountain. The amount of time you have to take pictures before the three-hour descent back to Kibo hut will depend on the weather at the top.
After a brief break, you gather all of your equipment from the ascent and begin the three-hour descent to Horombo Hut, where you will spend the night. You eat your final dinner on the mountain that evening, followed by a comfortable night of sleep filled with vivid memories and stirring emotions
